Samatha McBurney (Mrs. M) wanted to give her first-graders an opportunity to build their keyboard skills. Mrs. M knew that her students would need to be proficient on a computer for the upcoming grades, but she did not have access to a computer in her classroom. Mrs. M was able to get free keyboards from her school district's IT department. With the keyboards, Mrs. M created a keyboard station where students could practice their sight words by typing them. Even though they could not input the typing into the keyboard, it helped familiarize them with the keys. By the time the students got onto a computer, they felt so much more comfortable with the keyboard because they had been practicing at the keyboard station!
