With levels of violence and poverty rising around them, San Francisco middle school students find social and emotional healing -- and a new readiness to learn -- in a bold program of daily meditation.
The Principal of Visitacion Valley Middle School, worried about the stress of the students, started a mediation program called quiet time which has students mediating twice a day, once in the morning and once at the end of the day. Each meditation session lasts 12 minutes. Since implementing meditation, Viscitacion lowered the truancy and suspension rate by more than half.
